Bonnie and Tim decided in early 2007 that they wanted to get married, but that it would be a while before it would become official. In May, they told their parents (who were delighted) and did some window shopping for rings, but Bonnie was not expecting Tim to pop the question until much later that year. Tim graduated from UNBC, and began working for the Ministry of Transportation.
Early in August they went to Vancouver with two friends to do some shopping, go see "Grease" in the Theatre Under The Stars production in Stanley Park (starring Tim's friend), and watch the finale of the Celebration of Lights - as well as one other thing. The Thursday evening that they arrived in Aldergrove, Tim asked Bonnie if she wanted to go for a walk in the rose gardens on Saturday while they were in Stanley Park, before the play. She said, "Sure," suddenly a little suspicious that he may ask The Question. But Tim had it all planned. On Friday, they went shopping at Metrotown, and Tim took Bonnie to at least seven jewellery stores, making her think he definitely wouldn't propose soon - he didn't even have the ring! On Saturday, while in Stanley Park, after visiting the Aquarium and Granville Island, they took their fateful walk. The rose gardens were a little disappointing, so they walked across the road to some other gardens. Tim took Bonnie around where nobody could see them, and they looked at the gardens for a while and then Tim, paraphrasing Bon Jovi, whispered into Bonnie’s ear, "Do you want to make a memory with me?" Tim then got down on one knee, and Bonnie got a look of utter surprise. Tim took out The Ring that he had secretly designed and had made, and asked, "Bonnie, will you marry me?" to which she responded with tears and eventually, when she could speak, said, "YES!" Their parents, spread out around the country that weekend, knew exactly what was happening, and were toasting them at about the same moment.
